In collaboration with the Saatchi Gallery, The Auction Collective and Presenza presented Abstract: Reality, an exhibition and auction of artwork from 49 contemporary artists that brought together the two extremes of subject: the bold colours and disconnected lines of abstract art, and the fine details and precise representation of photorealist art. Afterimage 3 is a work made using alternating layers of matte acrylic and reflective aluminium paint. This layering and repetitive mark making allows each gesture to create only a fleeting impression before being replaced by the next, which challenges the viewer’s perception as light catches different areas of the canvas.
